The Boston bombings overwhelmed the news cycle, causing other news to slide by without fanfare -- even earthshaking, vitally important news. One of the stories that slid by in this fashion deserves worldwide notice:
A nonpartisan, independent review of interrogation and detention programs in the years after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks concludes that “it is indisputable that the United States engaged in the practice of torture” and that the nation’s highest officials bore ultimate responsibility for it.One day, the international community will demand a trial and accountability for US torture. Let's hope the whole crew is still alive when that happens. I didn't think I could ever be happy about Cheney getting a new heart. That changed when I read this story. I hope he lives for a very, very long time.
